- Curator Comment:
- Elizabeth Corbet Yeats, following her departure from the Dun Emer Industries in 1908, set up the Cuala Press, in Dundrum, County Dublin. Cuala publications, following Arts and Crafts principles, were type-set and printed by hand on heavy Irish-made paper. Illustrations for the press were provided by Elizabeth Yeats and a ‘stable’ of artists that included her brother Jack Butler Yeats, Beatrice Elvery, Harry Kernoff and Maurice MacGonigal. Whilst images were printed from photoengraved blocks after the artist’s original designs, at times Cuala Press illustrations were augmented with the application of hand-colouring, which was undertaken by Elizabeth Yeats and her assistants.
- Note on artwork:
- This limited edition volume is illustrated throughout with decorative motifs, primarily floral, designed by Elizabeth Yeats. Each illustration was hand-coloured.
