The illustrations created by Barton closely relate to the descriptive text by Frances A. Gerard.
Note on artwork:
Though reproduced in black white, the textural qualities of Barton's watercolour technique are clearly visible. The illustration depicts a bustling Patrick's Street in Dublin, with the spire of St. Patrick's Cathedral looming in the background. The area, known as The Liberties, was a principal market area in the city during the 19th century.
