This image of the Giant's Causeway, located in Country Antrim, Northern Ireland, depicts a geological landscape of cliffs formed by hexagonal basalt stones. The causeway became a very popular tourist destination in the 1800s. It was also a popular subject for artists. Here Nicholl has created drama through the looming presence of storm clouds and a heavy swell. The scene occupied by local inhabitants going about their daily chores.
