Barton, as author and illustrator, relates the imagery closely to the descriptive text. The owner of original watercolour was philanthropist and art collector, Edward Cecil Guinness, 1st Earl of Iveagh.
Note on artwork:
In this representation of Hyde Park Corner, the Wellington Arch is visible in the background. Barton's painting is an accomplished study of climatic effects and atmosphere. Figures huddle against the elements, carriages leave tracks in the rain soaked streets.
