- Curator Comment:
- Many of the illustrated items produced in the 19th century were of an ephemeral nature. Here is the illustrated cover of a song dedicated to Trinity College, published in 1878. The lyrics were by Harry Perry Ringwood and the musical score was by Thomas Morris Hamilton Jones Orr. The song alludes to ‘the worthies of this ancient place.’
- Note on artwork:
- The amateur artist William Fitzgerald’s illustration of Trinity College academics, politely caricatures the characteristic tastes and pursuits of the Trinity College ‘worthies’ who were among the most distinguished scholars of their day. Included among the figures is the then Provost, Humphrey Lloyd.
