Orpen, Richard Caulfield

Biography: Dublin-born Richard Caulfield Orpen (1863–1938) was an architect, illustrator, designer and painter. He was a leading figure among Irish revivalist circles and his brother was the painter William Orpen (1878 – 1931). RC Orpen was a regular exhibitor in Dublin art exhibitions including with the Dublin Sketching Club, Watercolour Society of Ireland and the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA). He was elected an associate of the RHA in 1911 and a year later a full member. He contributed illustrations to a number of publications including the Percy French edited ‘The Jarvey’. He was also an active member of the Arts and Crafts Society and was a founding member of the Guild of Irish art workers
