O'Hea, John Fergus

Biography: Cork-born John Fergus O’Hea (c.1838 - 1922) (pseudonym ‘Spex’) was a political cartoonist for a number of Irish political magazines. Working with A.M. Sullivan, O’Hea was chief artist for the satirical journal ‘Zozimus’, which was described as Ireland’s answer to ‘Punch’. An ardent nationalist, O’Hea contributed to a number of Dublin and London-based periodicals including ‘The Weekly Freeman’, ‘The Nation’ and ‘The Shamrock’.
