view galleryBiography: From a distinguished family of scholars, Margaret Stokes (1832–1900) was born in Dublin, Ireland. She was recognised for her contribution to Irish archaeological studies and was elected an honorary fellow of the Royal Irish Academy, the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, and the Antiquarian Society of Scotland. As an artist she contributed illustration to a number of publications, her own and those of friends and colleagues, such as the Earl of Dunraven's Notes on Irish Architecture.
